Welcome to the Settlers Film Club Website... 2012
First of all we wish you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and thank you for all the support in 2011
At this point in time we have not decided a date on which to start the season, which in the past has been around end of APRIL start of May. Last season we lost money overall, this was mainly due to the Rugby World Cup keeping people at home watching their T.V.s Having spoken to the main film distributors we were not alone, the audience figures for all main cinemas in and around Auckland were down by nearly 50% during the rugby. A lot of people have been asking me when the Settlers Film Club will start up again and my reply has been "I am not sure whether it will start up again" this is based on the fact that films are getting more difficult to access and costs of hiring the films and the hall mean that we need to get larger audiences to cover the costs. It takes a fair bit of time and effort to put on each film event, posters and publicity have to be organised and distributed, it takes a while to set up and show the films. In the early days when the Settlers started it was a new thing for the valley and we got great audiences, we hardly see those people any more, every week we have new faces....which is great but we have to find a way to get some of our founder fans back. I also think that the films in our programme have put some people off, but it is tricky hitting the right balance, some people say 'More docos' some say 'Too many docos' Ideally we should be screening a film every fortnight, then we could have more varietybut this means more work and expense plus more risk...So at this moment in time I am thinking of going back to the small hall where we have a seating capacity of around 60, then I will budget to this...A NEWSLETTER WILL GO OUT IN MARCH WITH DETAILS OF THE 2012 SEASON
